Learn from your mistakes and not from your failures
Unfortunately we live in a culture which rewards reaching our goals through making as less mistakes as possible (having good grades and good points in exams path your way to the top more easily). But learning from mistakes and correcting them makes you more confident and everybody progresses in a different tempo.
Confidence leads to less fight-or-flight reaction at the moment of the audition, your emotions are not going to block your logical thinking and control of the instrument and therefore you are able to focus on presenting the best version of yourself.
Learning from Failure (not winning an audition despite playing good in your own reflection) is trying to adapt to something you can’t control. You start to expect negative outcome despite the effort you put in and develop more anxiety and the fight-or-flight reaction will be worse and worse, leading to more and more mistakes.
Auditions are very subjective (therefore unpredictable) depending on the needs of the orchestra you apply for (their sound, their identity), the accoustic, the time to warm up, your personal feeling of the day etc.
Therefore stick to comparison with your past self and not others, make as much as possible mistakes in the process of preparing for an audition and try to limit unpredictable factors through mental training, sleep routine, the choice of your food and also: physical exercise for good condition.
